Rutgers women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer, in the public eye for much of the last two weeks after Don Imus called her players "nappy-headed hos," has signed a contract to write her autobiography."It's about an incredible woman with an extraordinary life story," said Tina Constable, executive vice president for publicity at Crown, who declined to say how much the company will pay Stringer. "She's a pioneer, a legend, an icon and a role model."
Although the Imus incident is obviously going to be the main selling point for the book, it should be noted that Stringer's life story was interesting even before Imus insulted her team. She has 777 coaching wins, she is the only women's coach to have taken three teams to the Final Four, she has a daughter who was paralyzed by spinal meningitis, she has a son who was kicked off the North Carolina State football team for his role in a fight that led to someone being shot and killed. It's a book that could be worth a read.

Maybe the book should be titled "Squeaky wheels get the grease" dedicated to Don Imus attempt at dark humor.

Can't be any worse than Whitlock's book which I ordered from his employer for $4.95 hardcover ($24.95 list price) and read in two evenings.
If her book won't be published until a year from now, it's hard to accuse the publisher of rushing to take advantage of current events, like the spate of books that came out right after Sept. 11.

She belongs right there with street pimps Sharpton and Jackson - she's capitalizing on a racial issue.

give me a break. who cares about her life. it must not be that great since noone cared before. i am so sick of them saying how hurt they were. grow up. if thats what hurts you in life then you have a long way to go. this was never news worthy and her writing a book is a waste of time and money. i would like to spit on everyone who bought into this idiotic unnewsworthy event

I agree with the firing of Imus but this book won't sell beyond a core of women's basketball fans. The Virginia Tech horror has already made the Rutgers story irrelevant by comparison.

She may not be nappy headed, but it appears she'll do whatever to make a buck.

Oh yes the inevitable book deal. Will it be in big block print so it can be over 100 pages, and will it have all the usual racial diatribe? One question Vivian -would you trade your life for any other persons? Remember Chas. Dickens' words: Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every person has plenty; not of your past misfortunes, of which all people have some.

Hate to ruin a good bashing but her book was in the works for over a year, this isnt a reaction to the Imus controversy and that will only be a small piece of the book. Her life story is compelling enough without the Imus issue. Writers should check their facts.

Do you think she will thank Don Imus in her forward for bringing her such good fortune? Perhaps, especially if she makes Oprah's Book Club and the sales go through the roof.

You know, I have really curly hair and am female. Someone, please call me a "nappy-headed ho" so I can write a million dollar bestseller.. I could definitely whine about my hair and relationships with men for 300 pages or more.

Her daughter is sick, her players get called a name (and she capitalizes) and her son is a thug. This makes her a hero?
